Oh Canada Cup Rules

Oh Canada Cup II

Coming Soon!

With the coming of the fall season there are two things I really can't wait for, one is the start of a brand new hockey season and the hope that this at long last will be the year of the Leafs! Well since the leafs winning the cup is merely a pipe dream I can atleast look forward to the Canadian region's biggest and most lucrative tournament, the annual Oh Canada Cup. This year will already be the 3rd edition of the tournament. Unfortunately with the number of active Canadian managers dwindling steadily every year it's been getting progressively harder to reach our goal of 24 entrants for the tournament. I'm hoping this will get the ball rolling to push for 24 entries in time for OCC 3. The great thing about this tournament is that there is only one requirement and that is you must be - CANADIAN! that's it. You don't have to own a World Championship belt or even contend for one. Heck you don't even have to be any good at TBG, if you live in Canada, you're invited. Let me be the first to add my name to list, anyone else who wants in can leave their name in a letter to the editor and I will update the list daily.

Rumble's Rewind Fight Reviews

Jackhammer Jones (Slick Willy) vs. Kongo No1 (DAD & SON)

I picked this fight to review because I liked the matchup, these two fighters are virtual carbon copies of each other. Two very tough sluggers at the top of their game with a possible title shot on the line. A tactical war that had a snowball's chance in hell of going the distance.

ROUND 1 - Both fighters began the round with very different strategies. Kongo came out with a cautious ring style, staying on the outside and tirelessly sticking that jab in Jones' face. Jackhammer's strategy was to open a cut on Kongo's face. His strategy worked as Jones stung the face of Kongo with hard shots landing flush. By the end of the round Kongo had a cut over his left eye but he took the round on points with 48 punches landed.

ROUND 2 - 5 - Kongo's corner worked feverishly on the cut opened up on their fighter after the first round but what they should have done is give him a different plan of attack. Kongo continued his high punch pitty pat style while jackhammer smartly punished him with powerful body shots. Jackhammer was taking the fight to Kongo now and his forward style and more decisive punches were winning over the judges.
With every passing round Kongo was wearing down, landing fewer and fewer punches while Jackhammer steadily and relentlessly attacked his opponent's already battered torso. It was already beginning to look very one sided as Kongo's tactical error became more and more glaring with every round he lost.By the end of the 4th round Kongo was visibly out of breath as he hobbled beaten and bruised back to his corner. In defiance of his corner who by now had him losing the last 3 rounds, Kongo continued stubbornly with his rat a tat style and refused to mix it up. He body was paying a very high price and the fight was getting out of reach, meanwhile his opponent was barely breaking a sweat.

ROUND 6 - Jackhammer keenly sensed Kongo's vulnerability in the 6th round and moved his punches upstairs once again. Kongo was getting beat like a red-headed step child in what seemed like the longest round of his life. The entire round was just a series of jumbled noises, seering pain and a series of white flashes. Kongo breathed a sigh of relief as the bell rang to end the round.

ROUND 7 - The doctor in attendance cleared Kongo to fight before the start of the 7th round. Jackhammer pounced on his weary, disoriented opponent at the sound of the bell. jackhammer drilled Kongo mercilessly with resounding, heart-stopping hooks and uppercuts. How was Kongo staying on his feet?! With the heart of a champion, Kongoclutched onto Jackhammer, a frustrated Jones could not get his hands free to finish his fading opponent. The bell once again saved Kongo from his inevitable fate for another round.

ROUND 9 - Kongo's left eye was swollen shut by the start of the 9th began got clearance to fight from the doctor. A furious barrage of punches forced the ref to step in and give a standing 8 count to Kongo. The ref let the fight continue. Smelling blood, Jackhammer sent Kongo reeling down to the canvas with a cruel, vicious uppercut. Kongo courageously beat the count while his body was undoubtedly begging him to stay down. He would need divine intervention to win now, stay down for God sake! Jackhammer was unmoved by the heroic display of grit and determination and landed a thunderous shot to the head of Kongo which sent his mouthpiece flying across the ring. Kongo's lifeless body crashed face first to the canvas and jackhammer raised his hands in victory as the ref began the count. Miraculously Kongo got up to his feet like something out of a low budget B movie. Kongo survived another round - there's no quit in his vocabulary.

ROUND 10 - Round 10 picked up where Round 9 had ended as Jackhammer landed a devastating right hook that toppled Kongo like a house of cards. This isn't a fight this is Felonious Assault! Kongo gamely struggled back to his feet but seconds later was greeted by a bone crushing uppercut which flattened him for good. He wouldn't get up from this one as the doctor was called in and Kongo received some overdue medical attention.

What a massacre! Kongo just stuck with that same strategy for the whole fight eventhough it clearly was not working. Jackhammer capitalized on his opponents tactical mistake and made him pay dearly. He clearly deserves a title shot for that effort but will the Champ give him one? Stay tuned and find out.
